FIFA bans referee Joseph Lamptey for life
FIFA’s Disciplinary Committee has banned Ghanaian referee from taking part in any football-related activity at national or international level for life.
Referee Lamptey was found guilty of influencing the World Cup qualifier between South Africa and Senegal in November 2016 when he awarded South Africa a controversial penalty.
“The official was found guilty of breaching Article 69 Par. 1 (unlawfully influencing match results)O of the FIFA Disciplinary Code during the 2018 FIFA World Cup qualifying match between South Africa and Senegal on 12 November, 2016,” a statement from FIFA said.
The statement, however, said that charges brought against Ghanaian official David Lionheart Nii Lartey Laryea, has been dismissed.
“On the other hand, all charges against the Ghanaian match official David Lionheart Lartey Laryea, whose behaviour had also been the subject of investigations, were dismissed by the FIFA Disciplinary Committee.”
