The internet allows me to make collabos with people I never met – Edem

Ghanaian artistes constantly complain of the way they are unable to raise revenue because of piracy and free downloads on the internet.

One artiste who seems to be using the internet to project his craft more and reach more audiences is Edem. He has revealed that with the internet, he is able to get in touch with artistes who he would not have otherwise met in person and propose collaborations.

“…the internet is probably the only place where people don’t know your personality so you have the ability to build anything. I’ve had meetings with people that I’ve never met because of the internet.”

“Somebody could check your followers on Twitter and how aggressive your fans are. They have mutual respect for you on the platform, which virtually like in real life. When you reach out for a collaboration, they want to do it because they need your following and you also need their following.”

Edem is known for his use of the Ewe language to rap. His first album, Volta Regime, was released in 2009 with the second (Mass Production) coming out in 2011.

He won the Best International Act – Africa at the 2015 Black Canadian Awards and the 2015 Vodafone Ghana Music Awards Album of the Year with the album Books and Rhymes.
