Google Doodle honours Esther Ocloo on her birthday
Google Doodle honoured the late Esther Afua Ocloo on her birthday by featuring her on the homepage of Google Search.
Google Doodle is a temporary alteration of the logo on Google’s homepage to celebrate holidays, events, achievements and people.
If she was alive, today would have been Esther Ocloo’s 98th birthday.
Esther Afua Ocloo launched her journey as an entrepreneur when she was a teenager and moved on to become one of the leading entrepreneurs in Ghana.
She co-founded Women’s World Banking, which is a micro-lending organisation.
“You cannot go and be begging to your husband for every little thing, but at the moment, that’s what the majority of our women do,” she said in a speech in 1990.
She died in 2002 after a battle with pneumonia. At her state burial, ex-Ghanaian president John Agyekum Kufuor said that Esther “was a creator and we need many people of her calibre to build our nation.”
