Ghana shines at international cocktail competition scenes!
Two senior members of Bartenders Guild Ghana, an association of professional Bartenders and mixologists in Ghana chalks success at two separate world Cocktail competition.
David Nii Doodo Nyamekye known as DavidBarr in the industry and Bar manager of Front/Back (Accra’s speakeasy club) was second at the Remy Martin Bar talent cocktail competition which took place in France March 2018. Davidbar crated his winning cocktail drink by taking inspiration from Remy Martin (producer of World class Cognac Remy Martin) like that of Le Centaur with the eyes up in the sky and feet on the ground full of greatness and inspiration and also added an element of culture infusion of Ghana vis-a-vis that of France. The dominant ingredients are from France and the most vital, compatible ingredients were from Ghana as well eg. Hibiscus Tea, Homeamade chocolate.
Johnson Wisdom Dogbey also known as Ace Bartender and bar manager of Little Havana (Cuban themed Restaurant) in the hub of Nyaniba Ako Adjei also came third at the just ended Havana Grand Prix 2018 which took place in Havana
This year, the biennial Cocktail Grand Prix was inspired by Cuba’s food, technology and Cultural Revolution.
The 2018 competition, entitled Cuba Moderna, challenges competitors to create a cocktail that encapsulates contemporary Cuba, while using authentic ingredients and techniques. Johnson Dodbey Ghana’s rep crated his cocktail by taking Inspiration from dates back to the period between 1950 and 1960 when a great Cuban instrumentalist and music by name bola de Nieve compose a music titled MaMa Ines (Mothernes) The song which simply meant that all the Cubans drunk coffee and smoke cigar
Johnson is also the current winner of Barmantv season 1(This competition was held in lagos for west African bartenders which took place last year. Bartenders Guild Ghana members swept all the top being 1ST Position, 2nd and 3rd Position. The vision of the group is to promote the advancement of the bartending profession in Ghana.
